Type 1 Diabetes:

I have vast experience working both with groups and on a one-to-one level with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients including patients on insulin pump therapy and patients with diabetes in pregnancy.

I work with Type 1 patients one-to-one and in Carbohydrate Counting groups, to help them develop knowledge and skills in carbohydrate counting and blood glucose monitoring principles to empower them with improved self-management skills.

Type 2 Diabetes

As a "DESMOND" educator I am trained and experienced in delivering standardised initial education to Newly diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes patients.

I am passionate about empowering patients with Type 2 Diabetes to self manage through knowledge of healthy eating and portion control, as well as to achieve all-important weight loss for long term health protection.

I provide one-to-one and group education sessions in "Carbohydrate Awareness" to help patients with Type 2 Diabetes - diet, tablet or insulin-controlled - take better control of their diabetes.

Pre-Diabetes:

Early detection of rising HbA1c (the blood measurement used to identify the presence or risk of diabetes) and / or other risk factors of diabetes in an individual (overweight, family history, low activity levels, poor diet) can give a vital window of opportunity to prevent onset of diabetes. This is achieved through targeted education to support the person to develop new habits and behaviours to achieve long-term healthy weight and a protective diet and lifestyle.
